Barcelona remain committed in their search for a new midfielder, as the club look to add more depth in the middle of the park.

Kalvin Phillips had recently become a hot topic in Barcelona circles, but it appears the Englishman is reportedly set to join West Ham, whereas Barça are not exactly serious about signing the player.

The Catalans, however, have shown concrete interest in another midfielder, in the form of Lucas Bergvall.

Barcelona in advanced talks to sign Bergvall

Barcelona have been monitoring the progress of Bergvall for quite some time now and are determined to secure his services.

To that end, Gianluigi Longari has issued a fresh update on the future of Bergvall, suggesting that Barcelona are in advanced talks to sign the player.

It appears the Catalans are looking to finalise a deal with Djurgardens, with the midfielder himself keen on a move to the La Liga champions.

Longari adds that Barcelona’s recent talks with Djurgarden have been quite positive, which should bring renewed faith in the club’s pursuit of the Swedish starlet.

What is Barcelona’s play with Bergvall?

It must be noted that Barcelona are not approaching Bergvall as a January signing. Their proposal is to sign the player in the summer transfer window.

That is hardly surprising as the club are suffering an economic downturn and are not in a position to afford the youngster’s release clause.

There is interest from other clubs such as Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern Munich, and Arsenal, but it appears the player himself has his heart set on a move to Barcelona.

If everything goes according to the plan, Bergvall will remain at Djurgardens for the remainder of the season and join the Barcelona camp in the summer.

The Swede could be an exciting addition to a Barcelona midfield that is already brimming with talents such as Pedri, Gavi and Fermin Lopez.
