On Tuesday evening, Barcelona president Joan Laporta gave a detailed interview during which he shed light on the club’s transfer plans for the summer window.

During that chat, the Barça chief confirmed that the club intend to keep hold of both Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo next season with their ongoing loan agreements set to expire on June 30.

“We want the Joaos to continue. Deco is working to ensure that they continue another season in the current conditions. Flick considers that they are high-quality players and when he coached Bayern he already tried to incorporate Joao Felix,” he said.

Barcelona inform Jorge Mendes of their plans

Now, Fabrizio Romano reports that Barcelona have already informed superagent Jorge Mendes of their plans to keep hold of Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo beyond the current season.

As was clear from Laporta’s words, he is on board with the idea of keeping Felix and Cancelo with sporting director Deco also in favour of the operation.

On top of that, new manager Hansi Flick has also given his approval for the Portuguese duo to remain at the club beyond this season.

As such, Barça have now conveyed the same to the Joaos’ representative, Mendes, who will now mediate negotiations between the Catalans and the players’ clubs, Manchester City and Atletico Madrid.

Romano adds that so far there have been no concrete negotiations with either Atletico or Man City, but it is clear that both Felix and Cancelo intend to continue with the Blaugrana as well.

Barcelona are not in a position to sign the Portuguese duo permanently and will only seek loan agreements once again.

Atletico Madrid, as per reports, are willing to consider another loan exit for Felix, but Man City’s stance on Cancelo remains unclear at this point.
