Given the club’s financial situation, it has become a trend for FC Barcelona to keep an eye out on the free transfer market in recent windows and the situation will not be any different this summer.

As such, as per Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are tracking the situation of Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso, whose contract with the Spanish capital club stands to expire in the summer.

Barça are ready to bid goodbye to Marcos Alonso at the end of the season, with the Spaniard’s contract expiring. Intriguingly, the veteran could be headed to Atletico Madrid as a free agent.

And, the Rojiblancos could see Hermoso make the jump to Barcelona as a possible replacement for Alonso.

As mentioned earlier, the 28-year-old’s contract with Diego Simeone’s side expires on June 30 and so far he has been delaying signing a new deal.

A versatile defender, Hermoso can play at left-back and centre-back and is an experienced customer with over 170 appearances in La Liga.

It is something that appeals to Barcelona as they would be reinforcing the defence with a proven player for no costs in terms of transfer fees.

As such, they are keeping a close eye on Hermoso’s situation at Atletico Madrid and could consider making a move for the Spanish international if he lets his contract run out at the Civitas Metropolitano.
