Barcelona were able to book their tickets for the Spanish Super Cup final, thanks to a comprehensive 2-0 victory over CA Osasuna in the semifinal.

The Catalans are looking to defend the Super Cup, having won the competition last year. However, they will be coming up against Real Madrid, who have been in splendid form in La Liga this season.

A day before the much-awaited final, former Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets backed the Catalans to win the Super Cup.

The midfielder further revealed that he was not able to watch Barcelona’s semi-final clash against Osasuna.

“I wasn’t able to watch the semi-final vs Osasuna but I know Barcelona won,” he said. “I hope that the result of the final will be like last year.”

Barcelona were the victors when these two sides last met in the Super Cup final, about a year ago.

The Catalans secured a 3-1 victory, thanks to goals from Gavi, Robert Lewandowski and Pedri.

However, things could get a lot tougher this time around. The club have not performed optimally in the league, while the defence has appeared quite porous.

Not to mention, Gavi is out injured, along with Inigo Martinez, leaving Xavi with limited options in midfield and defence. Even Joao Cancelo could be ruled out for this contest.

Barcelona were already beaten 2-1 by Real Madrid when these two perennial rivals met each other in La Liga. The Blaugrana cannot afford a similar result this weekend, especially with Xavi facing immense pressure.

Barça, though, are coming on the back of a two-match winning streak and if the attack can fire on all cylinders, they do have an excellent chance of retaining the Super Cup title this weekend.
