Earlier this month, surprise reports emerged claiming that Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies’ agent, Nedal Huoseh, was in Barcelona and held a meeting with sporting director Deco.

It came as a major surprise, considering that Davies has been predominantly linked with Barça’s arch-rivals Real Madrid, who have made him a top target for the summer transfer window.

Davies has verbal agreement with Real Madrid

But, now, Mario Cortegana of The Athletic is reporting that Davies and Real Madrid have reached a verbal agreement over a transfer either in 2024 or 2025.

The report from The Athletic acknowledges that Barcelona had shown preliminary interest in the Bayern Munich left-back, along with some clubs in the Premier League. But the 23-year-old’s preference has always been Real Madrid.

Given that his contract with Bayern Munich expires in 2025, he is expected to be sold this summer, for the Bavarians do not want to lose him for free next year.

It seemingly caught the attention of Barcelona, who held discussions with his agent, who was in the Catalan capital earlier this month.

However, despite the interest, Davies has now reached a verbal agreement with the current La Liga leaders and could sign for them either this summer for a fee or for free in 2025.

Barcelona have faith in Alejandro Balde

While there may have been talks held with Davies’ agent, Barcelona have full faith in Alejandro Balde and trust him to continue as their first-choice left-back next season as well.

The potential departure of Marcos Alonso could necessitate the signing of a new left-back, but it is likely that Barça will look for someone cost-effective to replace the veteran defender, or integrate academy graduate Alex Valle into the first-team setup.
