The past week has been an eventful one for FC Barcelona as the future of manager Xavi Hernandez has again been thrown into question.
Only a few weeks ago, Xavi and Joan Laporta confirmed that the former midfielder would continue at the club next season in a joint press conference.
However, some of the statements made by the 44-year-old tactician last week have ruffled the club administration’s feathers, with Xavi no longer guaranteed to stay.
Confusion prevails in the Barcelona dressing room
Now, Jordi Gil of SPORT reports that the Barcelona locker room finds itself in a confused state due to the uncertainty surrounding the future of manager Xavi.
When everyone took it for granted that Xavi would be their coach next season, reports to the contrary have caused general confusion.
With a week to go before the end of the league, the squad does not know if Xavi will be in charge next season.
Those who thought their continuity was assured by the confidence of the coach, now have doubts, while those who thought they were leaving do not know what will become of their future.
Deco has intervened directly with the players’ representatives to give them a clear direction for the future. But the players also want the coach’s approval and at the end of May they do not know who will be in charge of the team next season.
Laporta has decided to take a week of reflection which has only increased the uncertainty. Everyone in the dressing room would like to know what the project for next season will be like and not suffer constant lurches.
