Barcelona secured a crucial 4-2 win over Real Betis away at the Benito Villamarin last night, riding on the back of a stunning hat-trick by star forward Ferran Torres.

The Catalans had been in a bit of a rut of late, with performances not being up to the mark. The team was especially under huge pressure following the disappointment of losing 4-1 to Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final.

But, back-to-back wins against Unionistas de Salamanca and Real Betis over the last week seem to have brought about a change in atmosphere in the dressing room.

Barcelona locker room more positive

Indeed, as reported by Toni Juanmarti of SPORT, the mood around the Barcelona locker room has changed, become more upbeat.

Until Sunday, the squad was moribund in terms of morale. However, what happened at the Benito Villamarin has served to awaken the Barça roster from their stupor.

“They wanted to bury us before our time,” locker room sources say, pointing at those who thought that Barcelona were done and dusted this season.

A lot was written about the player and the manager himself, with potential successors also listed out for him if he is removed.

Direct sources in the dressing room told SPORT of the depressed atmosphere that has reigned in the dressing room in recent days.

But now, the rollercoaster ride and the hard-fought win in Seville served to revive a depressed squad. After leading 0-2, Barça had to come back to win the game, doing so in the dying seconds, when they were on the verge of possibly dropping out of the title race.

In the dressing room, the victory was celebrated as if it were a title. There were hugs all around, the occasional punch to the wall and, above all, screams.

In the dressing room they believe that, if they win vs Athletic Club this week, it could be the turning point that makes the difference towards the decisive stretch of the season.
