Speaking in an exclusive interview with AS, Manuel Sierra, the agent of Chelsea star Moises Caicedo, has revealed that Barcelona made an enquiry for the midfielder before his summer move to Stamford Bridge.

Caicedo was involved in one of the most captivating transfer sagas during the summer transfer window as Chelsea and Liverpool battled over his signing from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Ultimately, it was Chelsea who won out, shelling out a mammoth £115 million fee for the midfielder.

However, before Caicedo signed for the Blues, Barcelona were interested in him and asked about him, the midfielder’s agent has confirmed.

But the Catalan giants’ Financial Fair Play situation meant that talks never progressed beyond an initial enquiry, Sierra revealed.

“Yes, Barça asked. Barça asked, but it was an inaccessible subject for them. It was clear. In the end, with the Fair Play issue and so on, it was a complicated issue,” Sierra remarked.

“But yes, they did ask us and well, that’s where it stayed. There was no official offer; there were only soundings. The normal thing in the markets.”

Barcelona had been in the market for reinforcements in midfield during the summer and Caicedo was seen as a target.

However, with the club’s financial situation, a move for the Ecuadorian was never a realistic possibility. Instead, the La Liga champions brought in Ilkay Gundogan and Oriol Romeu to bolster their midfield department.
