Hansi Flick is expected to bring wholesale changes to Barcelona next season, and the alterations will likely begin right from the formation on display.

Known for his attacking 4-2-3-1 setups, the German tactician requires a strong double-pivot pairing for his team next season. With the position being one of Barcelona’s problematic areas, all eyes are on the transfer market.

The Catalans were said to be close to signing Guido Rodriguez earlier this summer but talks have fizzled out in recent weeks. As it stands, Valencia’s Javi Guerra stands out as a serious contender.

Tangible progress

According to an update from MARCA, Guerra’s agent Javier Garrido met with Valencia earlier today to discuss the player’s situation.

After all, he is said to be one of the players Valencia have placed on the market this summer, with the report stating that Barcelona have already made a move for him.

Guerra was one the transfer market last winter as well, and a departure this summer appears increasingly likely. Alongside Barcelona in the race to sign him, however, are Napoli.

The 21-year-old midfielder has a contract with Valencia that runs until 2027 and a move now will not come cheap. For Barcelona, needless to say, the economics which pan out over the next few days will be critical.

Finances discussed

Barcelona have reportedly made a move for the youngster already and have even met with his agent recently. The meeting discussed topics surrounding the conditions required to make the transfer possible, especially given financial constraints.

Guerra’s release clause stands at €100 million and Barcelona understandably cannot match such figures. They hope to get the job done for around €25 million and there is optimism that the figure will stand adequate.

Considering that Guido Rodriguez’s profile might not match well with Barcelona’s ideology in terms of possession and agility, Guerra offers a more rounded profile that could fit Flick’s plans.
