Football fans have much to look forward to this summer, as we near the start of the European Championship in Germany.

One of the teams that will be in focus is the Netherlands, looking to pose a serious challenge this time after bowing out of the Euro 2020 from the Round of 16.

The only Barcelona player part of the Netherlands setup this Euro is Frenkie de Jong, but there are question marks over the midfielder’s fitness as he had picked up a knock during El Clasico in April.

De Jong offers update on his fitness

Earlier in the month, de Jong had provided an update on his fitness, suggesting that he is ready to risk his injury in order to play in Euro this year.

Now, the midfielder has doubled down on his confidence in being able to participate in the tournament.

“My injury? I’m doing well. I hope I can be there for the first EURO 2024 game, but I can’t promise it,” de Jong said heading into the competition.

Frenkie de Jong’s deadline will be June 16, when the Netherlands take on Poland in their first match of the European Championship.

If the Dutchman makes it in time, he will be up against his Barcelona teammate Robert Lewandowski, who is still looking for his first international silverware.

However, it must be noted that de Jong does not guarantee anything, meaning there are still question marks on whether or not he can make it time.

Nevertheless, it won’t be surprising to see the Barcelona star participating in Euro 2024, perhaps in the latter stages of the campaign.
