Earlier today, FC Barcelona announced the contract renewal of veteran defender Inigo Martinez for another season until the summer of 2026.

It follows the spree of extensions that Barça have secured since January, with the likes of Ronald Araujo, Gavi, Pedri, Gerard Martin, and Pau Cubarsi all penning new deals.

Robert Lewandowski next

Now, SPORT reports that veteran superstar Robert Lewandowski will be the next player to secure a new contract at Barcelona.

Indeed, Lewandowski will remain at Barcelona for another season, with his contract extension set to be made official after the upcoming international break.

The extension was already part of Barça’s long-term plans when they signed the striker from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022. His original deal ran until June 30, 2026, but with specific conditions attached.

During negotiations between Lewandowski’s agent, Pini Zahavi, and former sporting director Mateu Alemany, financial terms were structured based on the player’s status and age.

His first-year salary was set at €20 million gross, increasing to €26 million in the second season and €32 million in the third, before dropping back to €26 million in the fourth year.

A clause allowed Barcelona to terminate the contract after the third season if Lewandowski failed to play at least 55% of matches (either as a starter or with a minimum of 45 minutes per game).

Lewandowski secured his renewal by surpassing the required percentage of matches in La Liga against Rayo Vallecano.

At 36, the veteran Pole remains a key starter and has already scored 21 goals across all competitions this season. Now his contract extension for another year, with a drop in salary, will be made official after the international break.
