The situation surrounding Xavi Hernandez has been tumultuous in recent months. From announcing his resignation to deciding to stay and now facing the possibility of getting the axe, Xavi has experienced a rollercoaster of events.

While the coach has constantly maintained an optimistic outlook in press conferences, once again iterating that he has nothing to worry about after triumphing over Rayo Vallecano, things are not as straightforward.

Laporta has not changed his mind

It would appear that the comfortable 3-0 win over Rayo Vallecano would offer the coach some temporary respite, but according to MARCA Joan Laporta still has not changed his mind.

The club president still maintains the belief that the best course of action for the club is Xavi’s departure.

Indeed, Laporta believes that Xavi lacks faith in the team. He feels that the project needs a coach with unwavering confidence in the squad’s ability to win titles and its potential to compete with Europe’s elite.

Furthermore, Laporta realizes that Xavi does not meet these criteria and is thus on the lookout for alternatives.

Considering the coach claimed that the team at his disposal was not fit to compete due to financial limitations, the president thinks he and the coach are not on the same page.

Xavi has the fans’ support

Given that Xavi’s departure is something considered out of the blue, with the board not too long ago expressing faith in his capabilities, fans have been siding with the 44-year-old manager.

And during the game against Rayo Vallecano, there was a section of the stadium that voiced support for Xavi while downplaying Laporta.

‘Xavi, yes, Laporta, no; Barça, yes, Laporta, no. Laporta, resign,’ shouted the fans.

While they did not last long, recent events show that stability is far from present at the club, and that is unlikely to be achieved until Xavi’s future has clarity.
