Journalist Oscar Mendez reports that Barcelona are making efforts to sign Fer Lopez, a promising 20-year-old talent from Celta Vigo.

Lopez, who plays as an attacking midfielder, had an impressive season in the Primera RFEF, scoring seven goals and providing three assists.

Because of his strong performance, there is a good chance that he will be promoted to Celta’s senior team next season.

Now, it must be noted that Lopez’s current contract is set to expire in 2025. Although Celta are already working on extending his contract, Barcelona remain very interested in him.

Celta running for an extension

The journalist claims that this season, many teams have scouted the 20-year-old, but Barcelona have shown the most interest.

However, Blaugrana’s subsidiary team cannot afford to pay a high transfer fee, which means they hope to sign him for free when his contract runs out in 12 months.

Meanwhile, Celta’s management has been in discussions with the player and his representatives for several months.

They want to make sure Lopez understands that he is a key player for the team’s future and hope to keep him at the club for many years. Their idea is to work on an agreement to gradually integrate him into the first team.

Celta have a roadmap, but Barcelona are persistent

The plan is for Lopez to start training regularly with the first team. If the first team manager believes he is ready, the midfielder will get some playing time in the First Division.

Interestingly enough, many people within the club see him as the natural successor to Iago Aspas as he has similar skills and plays in a similar position, just behind the center forward.

On the other hand, Barcelona, due to their financial constraints, can only hope that Lopez does not renew his contract with Celta Vigo. If Lopez decides not to extend his contract, Barcelona plan to sign him for free next year.
