In a huge development, SPORT’s Toni Juanmarti reports that Barcelona have reached a total agreement with youngster Hector Fort over a new contract until the summer of 2029.

Those close to the matter suggest that everything is tied up and the only thing remaining is for both parties to formally sign the agreement.

Another breakthrough star’s future secured

Like Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, and Fermin Lopez, Hector Fort has also enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Barcelona this season.

The 17-year-old La Masia graduate has impressed both at right-back and left-back and has showcased that he has what it takes to be a first-team regular at Barcelona.

In nine senior appearances, Fort has managed to register three assists, making a solid impression.

As such, talks over a new contract for the young defender had been going on for some time now and solid progress was being made.

Now, a total agreement has been reached, with the new deal set to run until 2029 and coming with increased wages and a higher release clause amount.

Fort’s new contract will come into effect from August, when the defender turns 18 years old and can sign a deal that runs longer than three years.

Competition for Balde

At 17 years of age, Fort has converted wonderfully to left-back, where he has put in some convincing performances. For example, he recently assisted Fermín Lopez against Almeria.

Regardless of what happens with Xavi, Barça are very happy with the defender’s development and next season he will be Alejandro Balde’s backup on the left flank.

It is not ruled out that the official announcement of Fort’s renewal will be made this week, although the noise around the club and the agenda of those involved could postpone it until a few days later.
