As reported earlier today, Barcelona are looking to strengthen three positions in the summer transfer window, one of which is the defensive midfield slot.
The pivot midfield position has become a major area of concern for Barça as Oriol Romeu, signed to replace Sergio Busquets last summer, has failed to impress and could even be on his way out once the season is over.
As such, it does not come as a surprise to see it being made the priority signing for the summer, with a number of options being identified as targets.
Joshua Kimmich remains on the radars
And, SPORT’s Ferran Correas reports that Barcelona continue to retain an interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich.
The German international was a top target for the Catalans last year, but finances prevented a move. Now that he is set to enter the final year of his contract with the Bundesliga champions, the possibility of a transfer in the summer has risen.
Kimmich, thus, continues to feature on the shortlist of players Barcelona are interested in to reinforce the No. 6 position.
However, signing the midfielder, whose market value stands at €75 million, might not be straightforward as Manchester City might also be sniffing around his situation.
On top of that, there is still no clarity about Barça and their financial situation and how much spending power they would have in the summer.
Who are the other targets?
Apart from Kimmich, Barcelona are also understood to be interested in Everton enforcer Amadou Onana as well as Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes.
The names of Aleix Garcia (Girona) and Mats Wieffer (Feyenoord) are also on the shortlist, with the former being seen as the top target at this point.
