Barcelona are on the cusp of signing Real Betis and Argentina midfielder Guido Rodriguez on a free transfer in the summer transfer window.
Indeed, reports earlier today stated that an agreement had been reached between the Catalans and the 30-year-old star over a Bosman deal in the summer.
The Argentine World Cup winner is set to become the Blaugrana’s first signing of the summer, coming in to address the pivot midfield position – a major area of concern for the club.
Kimmich pursuit still alive
However, as per SPORT, Rodriguez’s impending arrival does not mean that Barcelona will stop their search for a top-level pivot.
Indeed, it is expected that the Real Betis man will be coming in to fill the void left by Oriol Romeu, who will be leaving in the summer.
And, Barcelona will still continue their efforts to sign a top defensive midfielder, with Joshua Kimmich still very much in their sights.
In fact, the report states that the possibility of signing the German international from Bayern Munich remains very much alive.
The 29-year-old midfielder is seen as a priority target for the No. 6 role, along with Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi. Given his contract situation, Kimmich remains a viable option.
Kimmich could push for exit
Things have not been going all too well for Kimmich at Bayern Munich this season, with the German not seeing eye to eye with current coach Thomas Tuchel.
It was expected that the potential appointment of Ralf Rangnick as manager at the end of the season could help the Bavarians convince Kimmich to continue.
However, with the current Austria manager rejecting Bayern, they are left in limbo as far as their managerial situation is concerned, leaving Kimmich’s future uncertain.
