Barcelona’s ‘undercover’ transfer operation, approved by Hansi Flick

The summer transfer window is entering its final days, and one of the most intriguing situations involves Joao Cancelo, someone who Hansi Flick approves of.

The Portuguese full-back has returned to Manchester City, but his future at the club is far from secure.

It must be noted that despite Pep Guardiola’s positive comments about Cancelo’s attitude during training, the fact that the player was left out of the squad for the first Premier League match is a strong indication that he is not in the manager’s plans for the season.

Big decision awaits Barcelona

This situation leaves Cancelo at a crossroads. He must decide whether to remain at Manchester City, where his opportunities on the pitch might be limited or to seek a move elsewhere before the transfer window closes.

In that regard, Barcelona are a potential destination, a club where he spent the previous season on loan. Despite his inconsistent performances during that spell, Barcelona’s interest in the player has not waned.

However, Barcelona’s financial situation means they must be cautious in their approach. The Catalan club would be open to bringing Cancelo back, but only under certain conditions.

Ideally, they would prefer another loan deal, with the player agreeing to a reduction in his salary. This could be an option for Cancelo if he is eager to secure regular playing time, something that seems unlikely if he stays at Manchester City.

Hansi Flick is supportive of the idea

Sources close to Barça Universal suggest that Flick is supportive of signing Cancelo, particularly given that Barcelona lack depth in the full-back positions.

Nevertheless, Barcelona are determined not to overextend themselves financially for this transfer, as they have other priorities within their squad that need addressing.

The decision now rests with Cancelo. He must weigh the benefits of staying at Manchester City with a high salary against the potential for limited playing time or he could opt for a return to Barcelona.

Lastly, this transfer scenario could gain further momentum if Ilkay Gundogan leaves Barcelona, as his departure would free up significant financial fair play space, giving Barcelona more flexibility to manoeuvre in the market.

With the clock ticking on the transfer window, Cancelo’s decision could be one of the final twists in this summer’s transfer saga.
