Despite being eight points away from La Liga leaders Real Madrid at the moment, Xavi and Barcelona are not ready to throw in the towel yet.

In that regard, Javi Miguel has mentioned via AS that the team from Catalonia have set themselves a certain goal in order to challenge for the title.

The journalist writes that between the next five matches, Xavi’s men are aiming to reduce the deficit by at least two points so that when they travel to the Santiago Bernabeu in April, they will have only six points to catch.

How can Barcelona achieve this?

For what it is worth, Barcelona’s schedule between today and El Clasico poses considerable challenges, with two demanding away fixtures against Athletic Club and Atletico Madrid, along with a seemingly more straightforward match against Cadiz.

Additionally, they have two relatively easier encounters at home against Mallorca and Las Palmas, although the latter can be a tricky opposition.

In contrast, Real Madrid face just one formidable away match against Valencia, although encounters with Osasuna and Mallorca could prove tricky. At home, they are set to confront Celta Vigo and Athletic.

The upcoming weekend holds special significance for Barcelona, as a triumph against Athletic Club and either a draw or a defeat for Madrid could intensify the La Liga title race.

The course can be altered

Barcelona have entirely assessed the situation, realizing that traveling for the Clasico with a six-point gap or less could open up various possibilities.

However, overcoming Real Madrid at the their home remains a formidable challenge, despite Xavi’s reminder of two past victories during his coaching tenure.

Should Barcelona secure a victory at the Bernabeu, only three points would separate them from Madrid – provided they have reduced the gap to six – with six more matches to play. This scenario would unleash numerous potential outcomes and opportunities.

Right now, the ball is entirely in Real Madrid’s court, but as they say in football, it’s not over until it is over.
