Joshua Kimmich has been on Barcelona’s radar since the summer of 2023 as they thought of the Bayern Munich midfielder to replace Sergio Busquets.

The move did not go through due to the club’s difficult financial situation, but heading into the summer of this year, the 28-year-old remains on the Catalans’ wishlist as they continue the search for a new pivot midfielder.

PSG enter race for Kimmich

However, according to SPORT, PSG have entered the race to sign Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich in the summer, meaning Barcelona now have fresh competition for the German international.

With Kylian Mbappe on his way out, the Ligue 1 champions are planning a major restructure of their sporting project in the summer and have made the signing of a top midfielder as one of the priorities.

As such, the name of Barcelona midfield mainstay Frenkie de Jong is being considered in the offices at Parc des Princes, while another Barça star, Gavi, is also linked.

But, PSG are also looking at Barcelona target Kimmich as an option, with the midfielder understood to be not comfortable with his situation at Bayern Munich currently.

Kimmich’s contract with the Bavarian giants expires in the summer of 2025 and has opted not to renew yet. If the situation persists, the Bundesliga champions will be forced into a sale in the summer.

Barcelona like Kimmich, but the club’s poor financial health could once again hamper them in their pursuit of the German ace. And with PSG’s deep pockets, they may end up having an edge in the race for the midfielder.
