Kalvin Phillips’ future has been in focus in this ongoing January transfer window, as the midfielder looks to revive his career following a poor start to life at Manchester City.

The former Leeds United starlet has fallen behind in the pecking order, often struggling with a lack of game-time.

This has led to speculation over his future, with Barcelona and West Ham among the clubs reportedly interested in his services.

Kalvin Phillips open to join West Ham

Recent reports, though, have indicated that Barcelona are not, in fact, pursuing Kalvin Phillips. The club have yet to establish contact with either the player or Manchester City.

Instead, the midfielder has been closely linked with a move to West Ham, who are determined to sign the player.

To that end, Florian Plettenberg has issued an update on Phillips’ future, suggesting that the Englishman is now ready to join West Ham on an imminent basis.

Plettenberg further adds that West Ham are in active negotiations with Manchester City over a loan deal, with all parties working towards reaching a verbal agreement.

What’s the play for Barcelona?

It is apparent that Barcelona are not quite serious about the prospect of signing Phillips, perhaps due to the player’s relatively higher wages.

Nevertheless, the Englishman looks destined to join an English club, with West Ham apparently leading the chase.

With Phillips gone, Barcelona are expected to look into other options in the market. The club have been closely linked with a move for Lucas Bergvall, but the Swedish starlet may also cost a fortune.

Not to mention, Arsenal and Bayern Munich are expected to provide stern competition to Barcelona, in the race to sign Bergvall.
