Xavi will be remembered eternally as the Barcelona manager who handed some of La Masia’s most bright talents their debut with the first team. From Pau Cubarsi to Lamine Yamal, he has been the pioneer behind so many of the first team’s current young stars.
One such youngster who made an impression in pre-season last year was Fermin Lopez. The 20-year-old has enjoyed relatively regular playing time this campaign, especially after Gavi’s long-term injury, and was rewarded yesterday with an official promotion to the first team.
Barcelona’s new #16 spoke to the club’s social media after being unveiled as a new player of the first team in a recent interview and did not hold back in expressing his happiness.
“It is a dream come true to have a number in the first team, and I thank everyone who accompanies me on this path. All the teammates I worked with, especially the coach, the staff, and the new colleagues who helped me a lot in achieving this,” he said when asked about the life-changing moment.
Commenting on what Barcelona meant to him and his goals heading forward with the first team, Lopez said,
“I think it is a dream for any player to see the club like this. I am grateful to the club and we will work to achieve more success.”
Finally, he concluded by speaking about how it was a surreal moment for him, one that he never expected would arrive in his career in Catalonia.
“The truth is that I have always dreamed of this, but I never imagined this moment. I am very happy for me and my family, and now we continue working and look forward to more.”
