Barcelona have had a long-standing interest in Manchester City and Portugal midfield superstar Bernardo Silva.
The 29-year-old playmaker has been a topic of interest for the Blaugrana in each of the past three summer transfer windows, but financial reasons meant that the move never materialised.
This past summer, the Catalans made all possible efforts to try and make the transfer happen, but it was not to be and eventually, the former AS Monaco ace ended up signing a new contract with the Premier League champions until the summer of 2026.
Barcelona still interested in Bernardo Silva
However, according to the latest update from Record in Portugal (h/t FCB World), Barcelona still retain an interest in Bernardo Silva.
It must not be forgotten that Barça manager Xavi Hernandez is a huge admirer of the Portuguese international and sees him as the ideal addition to his midfield department that could elevate the level of the squad.
Having pushed for his signing last summer, it appears that Xavi is still yearning to add Silva to his roster, with Barcelona still keen on the 29-year-old, whose market value stands at €80 million.
Considering that he signed a new contract only last year, committing himself to Man City until 2026, Silva would likely command a big fee in the summer.
However, reports in the past have suggested that there might be a favourable release clause in his contract which might help the Blaugrana.
Either way, considering that the signing of a top pivot midfielder is a priority, it would be difficult to imagine how Barcelona manage to finance both deals, while also trying to sign both Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo permanently.
For now, Silva continues to remain a pipedream.
