Barcelona’s forward line is firing on all cylinders this season with the trident proving itself as one of Europe’s most potent forces.
Robert Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and even Dani Olmo have been exceptional for the Catalans. Of them, Yamal is the one who has garnered the most attention.
At just 17 years of age, the academy phenom is proving to be one of the best in the business with Robert Lewandowski even calling him the best winger in world football.
A deserved accolade
Earlier this month, Yamal was nominated as one of the candidates to win the Player of the Month award for September in La Liga.
Interestingly, the Barcelona phenom has won the award and is thus proclaimed the best player in the competition for the previous month.
Considering that Yamal is still eligible for the best U23 player category only makes the award more special as it is clear that the player now competes only with the elite senior players in Europe.
In eight league appearances and seven starts this season, the youngster has scored four goals and provided five assists for Barcelona and averages 2.1 key passes per game. He has also created a staggering nine big chances.
His month of September was exceptional as he scored twice for Barcelona in the win over Girona before providing one assist against Villarreal and delivering a goal against Osasuna. He also scored one goal in the UEFA Champions League.
Yamal will next be seen in action when the Blaugrana take on Alaves away from home. Given his hectic schedule, however, he may well start on the bench on the night.
