After a period of time, when it appeared that Barcelona were all set to terminate their long partnership with Nike, the two parties are now very close to reaching a full agreement over a bumper new contract.

This claim comes from journalist Alex Pintanel, who reports that the only final detail remaining is for the two parties to agree on the signing bonus and its division.

Barcelona and Nike close to agreement

Barcelona and Nike were at loggerheads not very long ago as the club felt that the deal in place was not the best one.

Amidst this, there were talks of Puma swooping in with a lucrative proposal while the Blaugrana also studied the possibility of making their own kits.

However, things got back on track with Nike eventually, with talks progressing steadily over the past couple of months.

Now, an agreement is understood to be imminent, with some sources even suggesting that the announcement could be made as early as this weekend.

What are the terms of the deal?

As per the report, Barcelona and Nike will agree a ten-year contract renewal which would see the Catalans earn around €120 million per year.

In addition to that, Nike will pay Barça a signing bonus, the amount for which is yet to be finalised, although it is certain that it will range between €100 million to €150 million.

It is claimed that part of it will be a bonus for renewal while a part of it will be counted as advance payment from the sporting goods giants.

It is the only issue that remains to be resolved in a much-improved contract that will allow Barça to balance the accounts before June 30, breathe a little easier and take the first step towards the long-awaited economic normality.
