Barcelona veteran’s continuity ‘almost impossible’, already talking with other clubs

Earlier today, we reported that Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto is prepared to wait for the club despite attracting interest from other teams.

While contract negotiations are unlikely to be a problem, the issue comes with the Catalans’ Financial Fair Play situation as they do not have enough space to register all their players and have other priorities.

The Blaugrana see the registration of other players like Gavi, Alejandro Balde, Inigo Martinez, Pau Cubarsi, and Hector Fort as priorities before Roberto and cannot confirm his continuity at this time.

Roberto likely to leave

Now, though, MARCA reports that the likelihood of Roberto leaving Barcelona is much higher than him continuing at the club.

Indeed, the report states that the 32-year-old club captain’s continuity with the team seems ‘almost impossible’ at this point, although it is not 100% ruled out.

In fact, the versatile midfielder, whose contract expires on the 30th, is already in talks with other teams.

Roberto has been waiting for too many months for an agreement with Barcelona, but it is taking longer than expected. He cannot wait until August, as Barcelona are asking him to do.

The club, especially Joan Laporta, and Hansi Flick are counting on him and the economic issue is not a problem either because Roberto is willing to continue with a reduced salary.

But the downside is that the Catalans have asked the 32-year-old veteran to wait until August to find out if they have room in their wage bill to sign him.

As a result, the Cule academy graduate has started to listen to other proposals on the table, which are quite diverse and from clubs on different continents.
