Barcelona are anticipating an important summer ahead. The club are currently immersed in the search for a new manager who can replace Xavi Hernandez.

In addition to finding a new manager, Barça are likely to make a plethora of changes to the first team, as they look to a build sustainable team and put an end to the club’s economic woes.

In order to sign new players, however, Barcelona may need to free up space in the squad. One of the players who could potentially have a surprise exit at Camp Nou is Robert Lewandowski, reports Diario AS.

Barcelona and Lewandowski have a decision to make

It is fair to say that Lewandowski has failed to replicate his performances from last season. But even still, he has racked up 18 goals in all competitions.

Lewandowski is regarded as a crucial member of the dressing room. Shortly after Xavi’s announcement, the first thing he did was to invite everyone for lunch at his home.

Lewandowski has also played a critical role in Barcelona’s recent form. He has netted five goals in his last six matches, notably winning La Liga’s February Player of the Month award.

The Pole’s current contract expires in 2026. But the last year of his contract will only be valid if the player plays 55% of games in his third season.

Lewandowski has a crucial decision to make in the coming summer. There will be no shortage of proposals, especially from Saudi Arabia and the MLS.

The former Borussia Dortmund superstar, though, is quite happy at Barcelona. He relishes the challenge of leading the Barça frontline.

But if the striker does leave at the end of the season, he would help Barcelona free up a significant chunk of the salary mass, which in turn, will allow the club to build a new squad configuration.

Barcelona, for their part, will be satisfied if Lewandowski decides to leave in the summer and release him. The club have an excellent relationship with the player’s agent, Pini Zahavi, so an agreement should not be an issue

All things considered, these are still early times. It must be noted that Lewandowski’s future could depend heavily on Barcelona’s new coach, so it will be interesting to see how things transpire in the coming months.
