Considering the difficult financial situation, it is a given that Barcelona need to make some important sales in the summer transfer window.
The idea is to get back to the 1:1 rule so that the team can have a free hand in the market to reinforce the squad. However, for that to happen, at least one or two major sales will need to be made.
Barcelona hoping to generate €100 million through exits
Now, journalist Sique Rodriguez on Carrusel Deportivo has claimed that Barcelona want to raise at least €100 million through player departures in the summer transfer window.
And in order to achieve that, the Catalan heavyweights have identified two players as possible sacrificial lambs – Raphinha and Frenkie de Jong.
Raphinha, 27, is courting interest from the Premier League, where Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly willing to offer €70 million for the Brazilian winger.
The former Leeds United man is no longer a guaranteed starter following Lamine Yamal’s explosion and with Ferran Torres also an option on the right flank, he could be sacrificed.
The second name on the list, as has been the case in the past summer windows, is that of Frenkie de Jong, due to his massive wages as well as the demand for him in the market.
It will cost Barcelona a total of €77 million to keep De Jong at the club until 2026, when his contract expires. With the player not receptive to a renewal proposal with a more rational salary, the idea of him being offloaded is very much on the table.
In fact, reports suggest that Barça will demand €100 million for the Dutchman if he does not renew, which alone would be enough to meet their sales target for the summer.
Either way, it promises to be another busy summer window for Barcelona. But there is some time to go for that and for now the club will be focused on finishing the season strongly.
