Fiorentina have recently reached out to Barcelona, expressing interest in signing Vitor Roque, reports Gianluca Di Marzio

It is said that the Serie A club is keen on securing the young talent on a loan basis, with the potential for a permanent purchase depending on certain conditions. However, Barcelona prefer a permanent transfer rather than a loan arrangement.

Roque, who joined Barcelona in January, has faced limited playing time since his arrival. He appeared in just 12 league matches last season, starting only twice and scoring two goals.

His opportunities were even scarcer in the Champions League and Copa del Rey, where he played only minimal minutes off the bench.

What is Barcelona’s plan with Roque?

Within Barcelona’s management, opinions on Roque are divided. While recognising his market value, the club hesitates to let him go permanently due to financial constraints and the absence of suitable replacements.

Roque has attracted interest from several clubs across different leagues, including Serie A contenders Napoli, who recently intensified their pursuit.

Napoli have been monitoring Roque since his days at Athletico Paranaense but refrained from bidding earlier due to perceived competition from Barcelona.

FC Porto have also shown considerable interest in Roque, initially seeking a permanent deal with a buy-back option for Barcelona.

However, recent discussions between Barcelona’s sporting director Deco and Porto’s president Andre Villas-Boas have centered on a potential loan move instead.

Deco views Porto as an optimal environment for Roque’s development, drawing from his own career experience. He believes Porto can provide the nurturing environment needed for young talents like Roque to thrive.

In summary, while Fiorentina seek a loan deal for Roque with an eye on a permanent transfer, Barcelona leans towards a direct sale.

Napoli and Porto remain contenders for his signature, with each club presenting unique propositions for his future development. The situation highlights Roque’s rising profile and the strategic decisions facing both player and clubs in the current transfer market.
