There is no doubt that Barcelona are on the hunt for newer players for the next season, with the club particularly keen on signing a new midfielder.

At the same time, Barça are equally determined to keep hold of the existing stars, including Joao Cancelo, who joined the club on a loan deal last summer.

Since joining the club, Cancelo has proven to be an asset in the Barcelona squad due to his technical efficiency and versatility at the back.

This has convinced Barça to try and sign him on a permanent deal this summer. Although the club would have ideally wanted to extend the player’s loan deal, Manchester City are not open to that idea and want a permanent sale.

It was earlier reported that Manchester City are willing to sell Cancelo for a fee of around €25 million, but Barcelona were keen on lowering the figure.

Now, Gerard Romero has revealed that Barça ideally want to sign Cancelo for a figure between €15-20 million.

However, Man City are likely to raise an issue with such a low valuation, especially given the fact that the player still has a contract at Etihad until 2027.

Certain factors, though, are starting to favour Barcelona, including the fact that Cancelo has his heart set on a permanent move to the Catalan outfit.

The Portuguese international has fitted in quite nicely to Xavi’s setup. And even though the coach is leaving at the end of the season, Cancelo is keen on staying at the club and helping the team improve in the years to come.

Man City, on the flip side, do not want to keep hold of the former Juventus star, who had a rift with coach Pep Guardiola.

But with Cancelo only willing to negotiate with Barcelona, Man City may have no option but to settle for a lower valuation. Superagent Jorge Mendes will have a key role to play in negotiations as Barça wish to sign the right-back for €15-20 million.
