Barcelona interest in Girona’s Aleix Garcia is no longer a secret and a new development has surfaced over the same, with a report from Mundo Deportivo affirming that the Blaugrana are aiming for his acquisition in the summer.

The Spanish publication states that Barcelona plan to negotiate with Girona soon even though the midfielder’s release clause is still unknown. In that regard, a few media outlets have mentioned it as €20 million while others are mentioning €14 million.

While it is known that it would be difficult for Barcelona to pay the amount, they plan to include a few players in the deal, namely Pablo Torre, Eric Garcia and Oriol Romeu.

Barcelona had different plans

It is to be noted that Barcelona were looking at Garcia as a potential new player to help the team this winter, especially since they lost Gavi for the rest of the campaign through injury.

However, even though Garcia was interested in joining and Barcelona wanted him, they couldn’t make it happen right now because of the troubles with Financial Fair Play.

But, Barcelona are still very interested in getting him on their team. They’ve found out that he might be available for around €14 million, even though there’s a clause for €20 million.

Meanwhile, it is said that Barcelona also have other ways to make a deal, like offering some players currently on loan to Garcia’s team and even sending back Romeu, who was previously with Girona. So, even though they could not sign him now, Barcelona are planning to try again for the next season.

Why do Barcelona want him?

Garcia is someone who can play in the middle of the field, either as a pivot or inside player and Barcelona have direly missed someone of this attribute.

He’s doing really well this season and has even become a full-fledged member of the Spanish national team. What’s even better is that he recently shared in an interview that his biggest dream is to play for Barcelona someday, especially before the Barça-Girona match.

“I would like to play for Barça. It is the club that I have followed since I was little and the one that I have always liked,” he said.
