Xavi’s decision to leave Barcelona at the end of the season has rocked Barcelona.

Already suffering from economic distress and a sporting crisis, the Catalans are now tasked with the crucial responsibility of finding an able replacement for the Spaniard.

Xavi’s decision came on the back of a few disappointing results, including a Copa Del Rey exit at the hands of Athletic Club.

Barcelona were in talks with Imanol Alguacil

During this chaos, Gerard Romero has revealed an interesting story regarding Barcelona’s quest to find a new manager.

It appears the Catalans were already in talks with Imanol Alguacil in recent weeks, seeking the possibility of the Real Sociedad manager potentially replacing Xavi.

Romero claims that Barça had contacted Alguacil’s entourage in recent weeks. This is not the first time Barcelona have been linked with the Real Sociedad coach either.

Even in the past when Xavi’s position at Barcelona was questioned, the club would often be linked with a move for Alguacil.

What makes Alguacil an appealing option?

It seems the experienced Spaniard is rated quite highly by the Catalan outfit, which is hardly surprising given how much he has achieved at Real Sociedad.

Alguacil has been coaching Los Txuri-Urdin for over six years. He has been in charge of more than 250 matches. Under his leadership, the club have consistently competed for the European spots in La Liga.

Although Alguacil does not have experience managing any other club than Real Sociedad, his rigid tactical setup could usher in much-needed solidity at Barcelona.

Not to mention, the 52-year-old is an excellent man-manager, which could go a long way in adding more harmony and togetherness inside a divided Barcelona dressing room.

Alguacil, though, is not the only option Barcelona are considering, with the Catalans also reportedly keen on hiring Jurgen Klopp in the summer.
