Barcelona’s chances of lifting any silverware this season may well be over, but the Catalans can now redirect their focus on the upcoming summer transfer window.
With the club’s financial restrictions and the widespread interest inFrenkie de Jong, the Dutchman’s future at Barcelona has been submerged in uncertainty.
Considering De Jong’s contract is structured with incremental raises, his salary for the upcoming season will be higher than his current earnings.
This arrangement is set to continue through 2026 and has caused some concern at the Barcelona headquarters.
Barça awaits response on Frenkie De Jong’s renewal offer
It has been reported that the Catalans are looking to offer Frenkie a renewed contract with lower salary terms.
Now, Mundo Deportivo have come out to report that Barça wants to renew Frenkie’s contract, but they are still waiting to receive a response to their offer.
If the Dutch midfielder does not renew and suitors pull out their chequebooks for him, Barcelona will gladly listen.
Since the defensive midfield and left-wing positions are identified as key areas for strengthening, the sale of the former Ajax man could enable Barcelona to reinforce their squad.
In the event Barcelona opt to part ways with the midfielder, they would be seeking at least €70 million for him.
Frenkie de Jong is a man in demand
It has been claimed that after failing to win the Bundesliga this season, Bayern Munich are particularly interested in the 26-year-old going into the summer.
PSG were one of the interested parties too, but financial fair play concerns have come in their way. Still, De Jong maintains significant suitors from the Premier League, which includes teams like Manchester United and Chelsea.
It remains to be seen what his future entails, but if he is unwilling to compromise on his salary terms, an exit will be seemingly imminent.
