Robert Lewandowski’s second season at FC Barcelona has not hit the heights of his debut campaign thus far. After arriving from Bayern Munich in 2022, the Polish striker fired the Catalans to the La Liga and Spanish Super Cup titles, even winning the Pichichi Trophy.
This time out, though, his performances have left a lot to be desired, with those within the club dissatisfied with what he is producing in front of the goal.
Lewandowski’s tally for this season reads 12 goals and five assists from 27 matches in all competitions, which is below the standards he sets for himself. Furthermore, the Poland captain has gone without a goal in his last four La Liga matches.
This, coupled with his rising wages and interest from Saudi Arabia, has led to speculation about the 35-year-old’s future heading into the summer.
Barcelona will not force Lewandowski out
However, SPORT is now reporting that Barcelona are not looking to force Lewandowski out of the club in the summer transfer window.
It is true that the Pole has seen an alarming drop in his form this term. But within the club, he is one of the most highly valued players in terms of talent, experience, and professionalism.
Nobody doubts him at Barça, although Lewandowski is not as happy on the pitch now as he was when he arrived as he is not getting the kind of chances to convert into goals.
That said, Barça are somewhat concerned about Lewandowski’s contract. He made an important effort to sign for Barça, in terms of salary. But this season and the next season, he will see a pay bump to make up for his financial sacrifice during his first year.
In fact, Lewandowski could end up being the highest earner at Barça next season or close to the top to someone like Frenkie de Jong.
That is a matter of concern, but it has been discussed with the striker’s agent Pini Zahavi. However, what is certain is that Barcelona will not force Lewandowski out of the club because of his increasing salary.
Decision up to the player
Indeed, Barcelona plan on continuing to count on the 35-year-old superstar beyond the ongoing season.
However, the Blaugrana will respect whatever decision the Pole makes after June 30. They want him to stay if he feels comfortable, although they would also understand if he were to consider a million-dollar offer from abroad.
The Polish striker has earned the right to decide his own career because of his performance and his extraordinary career and that will be respected.
