With the summer transfer window a few months away, the planning is fully underway at Barcelona as sporting director Deco and the recruitment department chalk out operations that need to be carried out.
One of the areas needing reinforcements is the right-back slot, with Joao Cancelo being the only natural player in the position, that too he is only on loan from Manchester City.
The plan is for Barça to sign the Portuguese international permanently, but the club seeks another alternative in the position.
Given the lack of finances, the Catalans will be forced to look at the players that are currently on loan: Julian Araujo and Sergino Dest.
Sergino Dest will be sold
And, SPORT reports that Barcelona will go ahead with the sale of Sergino Dest in the summer while retaining the services of Julian Araujo for the next season.
Dest, 23, is currently on loan at PSV Eindhoven, where he has established himself as a regular on the back of a series of impressive performances.
The USMNT international has racked up a goal and six assists from 30 matches in all competitions this season for the Dutch outfit, displaying his capabilities of being able to play as a right-back and left-back.
Earlier this month, some reports suggested that there might be a chance that Dest could stay at Barcelona this summer, with Xavi set to depart.
But it appears that such a possibility is not being considered and a sale will be sought.
PSV have €10 million buy option
As part of the loan deal, PSV Eindhoven secured a permanent buy option worth €10 million for Dest last summer.
The Dutch giants are happy with the 23-year-old full-back’s performances and will likely try to make his move permanent.
However, there is a possibility that they would try and negotiate with Barcelona for a price lower than the €10 million clause inserted in the agreement.
