The deadline day signings of Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix, on loan from Manchester City and Atletico Madrid, respectively, were met with great excitement at FC Barcelona in the summer.
The two Portuguese internationals arrived on temporary deals with no permanent purchase option inserted in the agreements.
However, it has been made clear by Barcelona that they wish to keep both Cancelo and Felix at the club beyond the ongoing season.
Barcelona willing to pay €15-20 million for Cancelo
In fact, SPORT’s Ferran Correas is reporting that Barcelona would be willing to pay a fee worth around €15-20 million in order to sign Joao Cancelo permanently from Manchester City.
Cancelo’s performance has been more than satisfactory for Barça. He arrived to cover at right-back, but his versatility has meant that he has played in several positions, and is now a starter on the left side of defence in the absence of the injured Alejandro Balde.
Cancelo has played 29 games, scoring three goals and providing four assists.
Barça are pleased with his performance and the player would like to continue. Knowing that Pep Guardiola does not want Cancelo in his squad, Manchester City want to sell him as well.
Barcelona are eager to sign the Portuguese defender, but not at any price. He has a contract with Manchester City until 2027 and Barça could offer between €15-20 million for him.
The pressure from Cancelo and also from his agent, Jorge Mendes, will be key to lowering the price the English champions will ask, which will be more than Barça want to pay.
