After going through a tough couple of months during which his form was up and down and his starting spot was under threat, things only got worse for Barcelona youngster Alejandro Balde.
The 20-year-old left-back picked up a serious hamstring injury during the Copa del Rey quarter-final tie against Athletic Club last week.
After some deliberations, it was decided that the left-back would undergo surgery and opt against conservative treatment for his injury.
Balde sends a message after successful surgery
Balde underwent his surgery on Tuesday, with the youngster operated on by Dr. Lasse Lempainen in Finland.
Following the successful operation, Balde flew back to Barcelona earlier today and opted to send a message to his fans on social media.
“Everything turned out well! Thank you all for the messages and shows of love. I will come back stronger,” he wrote on his Instagram, along with a picture of himself on the flight.
When will Balde return?
With the surgical route being taken, Balde’s season with Barcelona is over and the youngster will not play again under Xavi Hernandez this term.
The 20-year-old’s involvement for the UEFA Euro 2024 in the summer with the Spanish national team is also under the cloud of uncertainty.
But there may be some hope that he could recover in time for the Paris Olympic Games later this year, although whether Barça would risk sending him to the event remains to be seen.
