Following three losses in their last five games, Barcelona were left emotionally collapsed as Villarreal beat them 3-5 at the Olympic Saint Montjuic, coming back from 3-2 down after the Catalans themselves had mounted a comeback from 0-2.

The bigger bombshell, though, came after the match, as Xavi announced during his post-game press conference that he would leave Barcelona at the end of the season.

“I would like to announce that on June 30 I will not continue as Barça coach. The club needs a change of dynamic. The players will be free, they’re very tense right now.”

Confirming that he had made the decision a while ago, he said: “I feel very good. I made my decision a long time ago, and it feels liberating to announce it. I think that we can still have a good season in my last four months here.”

While fans and the players have been left distraught, they are also left wondering who the right man for the job is after this.

There are, of course, several names that suit the role, including and not limited to tacticians such as Real Sociedad’s Imanol Alguacil, Girona’s Michel, Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, and several others.

Amidst all of this, a certain Thomas Tuchel has hinted at his interest in the vacancy, as quoted by Florian Plettenberg, “Moving abroad would appeal to me again. Spain has an extraordinary league.“

“From my perspective, and based on my experience working with Spaniards, they are characterized by a tremendous amount of self-confidence. When you speak with Spanish players, you quickly get the sense that you are engaging with the person.“

Currently coach of Bayern Munich, Tuchel has been under severe scrutiny this season, sitting second in the Bundesliga. The Bavarians are only two points adrift of Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen, and have only lost two games this season.

However, all this could be for nothing if Tuchel does not end up winning the league this season. Especially because the last time someone other Bayern won the title was Borussia Dortmund in 2011/12.

Moreover, Tuchel was appointed after Julian Nagelsmann was sacked last season as the German giants did not want to miss out on someone as accomplished as the former Chelsea manager, while he was still available.
