After losing the Bundesliga title to Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich intends to regain its national supremacy in the 2024-2025 season. To start this new cycle, the Bavarian leaders have also decided to bet on a new coach. Following numerous refusals, the Rekordmeister board finally got its hands on Vincent Kompany, who arrived on the Munich bench to succeed Thomas Tuchel. If the coach’s file is therefore settled, the last third in the German championship now intends to set the summer transfer window alight. Several names are already linked to strengthen the ranks of the Belgian coach. There is no question of experiencing another season without a trophy in Bavaria.

With this in mind, the Champions League semi-finalist is getting busy and has already drawn up an attractive shortlist. From Dani Olmo to Jonathan Tah, John Stones, Nico Williams and Joshua Zirkzee, there is no shortage of names. Before recruiting, Bayern Munich nevertheless intends to carry out a major clean-up. Therefore, Sky Germany claims that the Bavarian management has opened the door to several players in the squad, and not the least. Recruited for 67 million euros in 2022, Matthijs de Ligt (24 years old) will not, as such, be retained by the German club. And as announced in recent days, a major European club is ready to offer him a new chance to shine, while the 24-year-old Dutchman has struggled to gain stability and solidity since his departure from Ajax Amsterdam.

A reunion in England?

After some complicated recent seasons, Matthijs de Ligt could well get back on track by discovering a new championship. Indeed, the sirens of the Premier League are ringing for the Dutch rock. According to information from Sky GermanyManchester United have held initial talks with Bayern Munich to explore terms of a potential deal for the Dutch international. Matthijs de Ligt is reportedly interested in a move to Manchester United, following interest from the club. Negotiations could be facilitated by manager Erik ten Hag, who previously coached De Ligt at Ajax. The Red Devils tactician wants the 24-year-old to be part of his squad at Old Trafford next season. Sky in Germany have also reported that the Bavarian’s valuation is in the region of €50 million, with bonuses likely to be added in the event of a transfer. The report adds that de Ligt’s contractual demands are unlikely to be a problem for Manchester United, who are determined to lock him in fairly quickly.

De Ligt’s agent Rafaela Pimenta is only negotiating terms with the Red Devils, although the media outlet BILD reveals that PSG are interested in the services of the former Ajax Amsterdam defender. As for the main player concerned, he currently has three years left on his contract with the Rekordmeister, whom he joined from Juventus Turin in 2022. Matthijs De Ligt made 30 appearances in all competitions for Bayern last season, scoring twice. However, he has had to face intense competition from the German giants, alongside Dayot Upamecano, Kim Min-jae and Eric Dier. The Leiderdorp native is currently in Germany with the Netherlands at Euro 2024, still in contention. However, he has yet to play a single minute for Ronald Koeman’s team at the tournament. It is worth noting, however, that the Mancunian club also maintains an interest in Everton’s English defender, Jarrad Branthwaite. But the Toffees do not want or need to sell their gem immediately.
