There is no doubt that Bayley is one of the top female Superstars in all of WWE as her previous reign as Smackdown Women’s Champion lasted 380 days and on top of that, she also has the most days as Women’s Champion in modern WWE. Her current gimmick is far different from her hugger persona back in the day and she has now addressed potentially returning to the gimmick.

Before embracing heel persona, Bayley was known for her babyface look characterized by bright colors and a signature ponytail. She frequently hugged fans during her entrance, further pointing out her babyface role. However, she later cut off her ponytail and adopted a heel persona, shifting away from her previous fan-friendly image.

While speaking in a recent interview with Dr. Chris Featherstone for Sportskeeda Wrestling, Bayley addressed whether fans might see her return to her old gimmick. She stated that she has moved on from that character, stating that she has evolved and grown beyond it.

The WWE Women’s Champion likened it to ending an old relationship that was enjoyable but is no longer relevant, suggesting that it is time for others to take up that role.

“No. Because I am new. I am done with it. I have grown. There’s no way. You can’t go back to an old relationship just because it was fun you know? There is newer kids, that’s true, but they got other people to cheer for you know? It’s time for someone else to take that rein.”

Bayley also previously noted that the heel turn was her idea. Regardless, Bayley is currently slated to defend her Women’s Championship against Nia Jax at WWE SummerSlam, so that’s her focus right now as she’s made it clear the hugger gimmick is never coming back.
