The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Abigail Marshall-Katung, has urged Nigerian and British youths to remain consistent in pursuing their dreams.
She made the call during the launch of an initiative by a UK-based Nigerian data analyst, Rotimi Olorunfemi.
The event, titled Stand Out, was organised by The Rotimi Olorunfemi Initiative (TROI) and held at the University of Bradford’s Small Hall.
In a statement obtained by Saturday PUNCH, the initiative was described as a pivotal moment for youth empowerment in the UK.
In her speech, the Lord Mayor said, “The key to standing out lies in staying true to yourself while daring to pursue success relentlessly.”
Olorunfemi, the founder of TROI and convener of the Stand Out event, shared the personal journey that inspired him to establish the initiative.
“Having seen friends and young people succumb to societal vices due to a lack of guidance and mentorship, I felt a personal responsibility to create a platform where young individuals can be empowered to live up to their full potential,” he said.
The Councillor of Salford City, Walkden South in England, Hilaria Asumu, was among the notable figures who graced the occasion.
The panelists shared their journeys, insights, and advice on personal and professional development to encourage the youths who were present at the gathering.
The session exemplified TROI’s mission to create platforms for young people to express themselves, build confidence, and find mentorship. From creative ventures to entrepreneurial successes, these inspiring young voices demonstrated the immense potential within the community.
