Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Tim Burton’s long-awaited follow-up to his classic 1988 supernatural comedy Beetlejuice, will begin streaming exclusively on Max on December 6, debuting on HBO linear on Saturday, December 7 at 6:10 p.m. ET.
The film’s HBO/Max debut comes following a triumphant September theatrical launch that saw it gross over $451 million worldwide.
Reteaming Burton with original cast members Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara and Michael Keaton, Beetlejuice Beeteljuice picks up with Lydia Deetz (Ryder) as an adult still haunted by experiences earlier in life with the mischievous ghost, Betelgeuse (Keaton). Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid (Jenna Ortega), discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.
World premiering at the Venice Film Festival, the Warner Bros. Pictures title’s newcomers apart from Ortega include Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, Arthur Conti and Monica Bellucci. Wednesday’s Alfred Gough & Miles Millar penned the script from their story conceived with Seth Grahame-Smith, which is based on characters created by Michael McDowell & Larry Wilson.
Marc Toberoff, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Tommy Harper and Burton produced, with Sara Desmond, Katterli Frauenfelder, Gough, Millar, Larry Wilson, Laurence Senelick, and Brad Pitt executive producing.
