Karim Benzema appears to be following in Jordan Henderson’s footsteps for the first time in his career, with the French striker regretting his move to Al-Ittihad. KB9 would like to return to European football.

The 36-year-old has not enjoyed his stay so far and relations with the Saudi club have stalled. The Portuguese was fired by Al-Ittihad following a falling out with manager Nuno Espirito Santo, which did not stop Benzema from being criticized online for his lack of effort. However, he scored 12 goals and delivered 5 assists in 20 appearances.

After missing in December, Benzema also did not return to pre-season training. HITC claims that discussions have been held with new sporting director Ramon Planes to discuss his departure from the club. Marca confirms that Benzema is keen to return to European football, but it won’t be to Real Madrid – Los Blancos have closed the door on any potential return.

Second top scorer in the history of Real Madrid, Benzema clearly has the qualities required to play for another big club, just six months after his departure. However, injuries have increased in his last two seasons at Real, and it will be interesting to see if another big club is willing to hand him the keys to their attack. Any club that signs him will be aware that this is a short-term option.
