Big Bill was initially not a fan of his name change in AEW.

When he debuted against Wardlow in 2022, the former WWE star was known as W Morrissey. However, he signed a full-time contract later that year, joining The Firm and changing his name to Big Bill.

Since then his career has been on the up-and-up. He won the AEW Tag Team Championships with Ricky Starks and now appears weekly alongside Chris Jericho as part of The Learning Tree faction.

Big Bill spoke with Chris Jericho on Talk Is Jericho and was asked about his reaction to changing his name to Big Bil after signing with AEW.

“In my first week here, MJF told me. A few people asked me ‘What do you think of the name Big Bill?’. At first, I was like ‘I really don’t like that.'” Big Bill said.

“They were like ‘Its Tony [Khan]’s idea and Tony loves it’. And I said ‘Its fantastic! I love it!’.”

“You’ve gotta check your ego. I don’t know, at first, but I have to go with someone else’s opinion. This is the guy that books the company, that sacked up and put his money down to start the company. Maybe he knows better? I started going with it and guess what? It caught on! So who knew better?”

Big Bill Texted Triple H Before Joining TNA

Big Bill says he told Triple H before he went to IMPACT Wrestling and said that he was not ready to back to WWE at the time.

Speaking on Talk Is Jericho, Big Bill discussed returning to wrestling after he got sober.

“About going back? I talked briefly to Finn when IMPACT offered me to go there,” Big Bill said. “I was like, WWE has done so much for me in terms of rehab and they’ve paid a lot of money. I don’t want to insult them. He said, ‘Just talk to Hunter. He’ll understand.’ So then before I went to IMPACT, I just texted Hunter, wanted to let him know. Super appreciative.

“I was just like, ‘I just want to let you know I’m super appreciative. I’m not ready to come back to WWE, I want to go do this, but seriously, appreciate it. Down the road, we’ll see.’ He was super cool about it. That’s exactly what he said. He said, ‘Do what you gotta do. Down the road, whatever.’ So that’s the only time I reached out to them at that point.”
