Cory Ellison is forging a new path for himself in Season 4 of The Morning Show, after being left without a job at UBA at the end of the third season, Billy Crudup says.

The actor teased his character’s upcoming fate on the heels of his Emmy win on Sunday night, telling reporters backstage: “I never imagined him without a job or without succeeding.”

“I thought that was one of the things that was most enjoyable about playing [the character]. He never got down on himself, because he always had the confidence that he would, in the end, prevail very quick in his maneuvering,” Crudup continued. “So to face the daunting task of what comes next, I have left that to the writers, and they have delivered something very interesting. We’re in the middle of shooting it now, so I can’t divulge it, but it’s new terrain for Cory, and it’s exciting to play.”

Crudup took home the golden statuette for Best Actor in a Drama Series at the 76th Emmy Awards for his performance in Season 3 of the Apple TV+ drama. In the press room, he also praised the show’s writers for giving him “a lot to do last year, which was really rewarding and quite daunting.”

He said he especially enjoyed the opportunity to play Cory going somewhat off the rails in Season 3, as he goes toe-to-toe with savvy tech mogul Paul Marks (Jon Hamm).

“Having played a character who’s super cool all the time, to get to have some kind of physical expression of anger pretty fun,” he said.

As Crudup mentioned, Season 4 of The Morning Show is currently in production. The series received an early renewal for a fourth season before Season 3 even premiered. At the time of this announcement, a fifth season was also in consideration.

So far, Season 4 doesn’t have a premiere date. Read everything we know about the upcoming installment here.
