In his first video message since the scare, Bishop Jakes shared an emotional message, thanking everyone for their overwhelming prayers and support during this time. The video captures Bishop Jakes in a wheelchair as he leaves what looks like a hospital. He was dressed in an olive cap, a cream hoodie, and light green pants.
As he tries to get up from the wheelchair, Jakes says, “he’s so grateful to be here.” He goes on to thank the “medical professionals, everyone who texted, prayed, held vigils, and those who sent love and notes.” Fighting back tears, he says, “Thank you,” acknowledging that “things didn’t have to turn out this way.” Bishop Jakes also reflected on “not being afraid to die.” But he admitted that he didn’t want to cause pain to his children, loved ones, or his church, emphasizing, “They still need him.”

In an Instagram video, Sarah and Touré assured everyone that Bishop Jakes was recovering well, remaining strong, and receiving medical care following the incident.
