The war of words broke out on X over the BRS leader’s post on petrol and diesel prices on April 2, 2014, and April 2, 2024. Hyderabad: The Telangana unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) responded to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao’s comments blaming the Central government for the rise in petrol and diesel prices despite a drop in crude oil prices.
The BJP accused KTR of making misleading statements about petrol and diesel prices in the country. KTR had questioned why petrol prices had increased by Rs 35 per litre and diesel prices by Rs 40 per litre over the past decade when crude oil prices had dropped by $20 per barrel since 2014.

KTR also mentioned that the rupee hitting an all-time low was not a valid reason for the rising fuel prices. He shared an old tweet by PM Modi from his time as Chief Minister of Gujarat, where Modi blamed corruption in Delhi for the devaluation of the rupee.
The BJP responded strongly to KTR’s remarks, suggesting that he may be influenced by recent events like the Delhi Liquor Scam. They highlighted that the Central government had reduced petrol and diesel prices multiple times, while Telangana under KTR’s leadership imposed high VAT rates on fuel.

The BJP compared petrol and diesel prices in Telangana and Uttar Pradesh, pointing out that fuel was significantly cheaper in Uttar Pradesh. They criticized KTR’s party for imposing high taxes on petroleum products, causing inflation and making life difficult for the people.
