‘Blade Runner 2099’ Prime Video Sequel Series Adds Tom Burke & Maurizio Lombardi As Recurring

EXCLUSIVE: Tom Burke (Furiosa) and Maurizio Lombardi (Ripley) are set for recurring roles in Blade Runner 2099, Prime Video‘s limited series following up the 2017 movie sequel Blade Runner 2049, starring Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer. 

No character details have been revealed. Production has begun in Prague and will move to Barcelona at a later date.

Additional cast includes Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Katelyn Rose Downey, and Daniel Rigby. Previously announced recurring guest stars include Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, and Matthew Needham.

Silka Luisa is showrunner and executive producer along with Ridley Scott, Alcon Entertainment co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, Alcon’s President of Television Ben Roberts, David W. Zucker and Clayton Krueger from Scott Free Productions, Tom Spezialy, Richard Sharkey, Michael Green, Cynthia Yorkin, Frank Giustra, and Isa Dick Hackett. Steven Johnson is Co-EP. Shōgun‘s Jonathan van Tulleken will direct the first two episodes.

The show marks Alcon’s first TV series in the Blade Runner universe since it acquired film, television and ancillary rights to produce prequels and sequels to the 1982 science-fiction thriller Blade Runner in 2011. Since then, it has financed and produced Blade Runner 2049.

Burke can most recently be seen in a starring role opposite Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth in the Mad Max prequel Furiosa, in Sebastian Lelio’s The Wonder opposite Florence Pugh, and in Oliver Hermanus’ highly acclaimed Living alongside Bill Nighy. He also starred in Netflix’s The Crown opposite Helena Bonham Carter, played Orson Welles in David Fincher’s Oscar-nominated feature Mank, and starred in Joanna Hogg’s feature The Souvenir. He recently wrapped filming on Steven Soderbergh’s Black Bag opposite Cate Blanchett & Michael Fassbender. 

Lombardi most recently appeared in the Steve Zaillian-directed Netflix series Ripley and upcoming in Citadel: Diana, directed by Arnaldo Catinari, and M – The Son of the Century series directed by Joe Wright. His other recent credits include features Romeo è Giulietta, Il Vangelo Secondo Maria and Sei nell’anima, the biopic of Italian rocker and singer Gianna Nannini. He also appeared in HBO’s The Young Pope and Paolo Sorrentino’s The New Pope, in the role of Cardinal Mario Assente.
