Blumhouse has set Black Adam filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra as director, and Danielle Deadwyler as star and EP on The Woman in the Yard.

The project reteams Collet-Serra and Deadwyler, who recently collaborated on the Netflix thriller pic, Carry On.

The pic, which has a plot line under wraps, is set for theatrical release on Jan. 10, 2025.

“I’ve been trying to find the right project to work on with Jaume, in our system, for over a decade. The Woman in the Yard is the perfect match, a film that’s ambitious in scope but modest in budget that combines Jaume’s vision with the incomparable Danielle Deadwyler. Together with my friend Stephanie Allain, this is a real dream team and I’m excited to collaborate with them on the film,” said Blumhouse Boss Jason Blum.

The Woman in the Yard is written by Sam Stefanak. Blum and Stephanie Allain are producers on the film. Collet-Serra, Deadwyler, Gabrielle Ebron, Scott Greenberg and James Moran are EPs. Haley Pigman and Jungyoon Kim are the executives covering the film for Blumhouse. The Woman in the Yard is a Blumhouse production for Universal.

BAFTA Nominee Deadwyler is a multidisciplinary performance artist, actor, and filmmaker. She recently completed filming on the Netflix feature adaptation of August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson opposite John David Washington and Samuel L. Jackson for Academy Award-winning producer Denzel Washington. Deadwyler also has A24’s I Saw the TV Glow premiere at Sundance, which will also play at this year’s SXSW. She is best known for her starring role in the award-winning film Till, portraying Emmett Till’s mother, Mamie Till-Mobley. Her performance garnered her the 2022 Gotham Award for Outstanding Lead Performance, the 2022 Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Black Cinema & Television Actress Award for Film, and the 2022 National Board of Review Breakthrough Performance Award. The actress can also be seen in the Netflix limited series From Scratch opposite Zoe Saldana, as well as the Emmy nominated limited series Station Eleven for HBO Max, for which she was nominated for a 2023 Film Independent Spirit TV Award in the category of ‘Best Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series’ and the acclaimed Netflix feature The Harder They Fall opposite Idris Elba, Regina King, and Lakeith Stanfield for director Jeymes Samuel and producer Jay Z and was nominated for the NAACP Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance.
