There is heightened security at the Federal High Court in Osogbo, where Olalekan Oyeyemi, an associate of Governor Ademola Adeleke, is undergoing trial for charges related to murder and terrorism.

Oyeyemi faces a ten-count charge brought against him by the Inspector General of Police, accusing him of killing members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and involvement in terrorist activities. He has pleaded not guilty and has been remanded in the Ife Correctional Facility.

His counsel, Edmund Biriomoni, who was appointed by Adeleke, filed a formal bail application on seven grounds. However, the prosecution counsel, Francis Osie, opposed the bail application citing Sections 162 and 165 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015.

The presiding judge, Justice Emmanuel Ayoola, has postponed the ruling on the bail application to today.

During the previous court session on March 19, 2024, three journalists were held captive in court by thugs who were unhappy with the media coverage of the proceedings. The journalists were later rescued by nine armed policemen from the court premises.

As of Tuesday morning, heavy security measures were observed, with armed policemen and patrol vans stationed strategically around the court premises. Both inside and outside the court, operatives were present. The defendant was also present in court.

As of the time of this report, the proceedings for the bail ruling have not yet commenced.
