The United Kingdom’s Labour Party surged to victory early on Friday, securing a decisive win in the general election by surpassing the 326-seat threshold needed for a working majority in the House of Commons.
“A mandate like this comes with great responsibility,” Labour leader Keir Starmer told supporters during a jubilant dawn rally in London, shortly after the results confirmed the party’s landslide win.
According to the BBC, as final figures are tallied, Labour is projected to win 410 seats, while the Conservatives are expected to secure 144.
Rishi Sunak conceded defeat and stated that he had called Starmer to congratulate him on the victory.
Prime Minister-elect Keir Starmer has vowed to initiate a period of “national renewal” in the UK following Labour’s triumph over the ruling Conservatives in the general election.
“Today we start the next chapter — begin the work of change, the mission of national renewal, and start to rebuild our country,” Starmer declared in a victorious speech in London after his party achieved a majority in parliament.
